How Pudgy Penguins works
PENGU is an SPL token, the standard token format on the Solana blockchain. Transfers settle in seconds and fees are paid in SOL. The token was distributed largely through an airdrop to Pudgy Penguins NFT holders and to wallets across several blockchains that met eligibility rules, with the rest reserved for the team, the company, liquidity and future community programs.
The brand behind it began as a 2021 Ethereum NFT collection and has grown into plush toys, animated content and games, run by Igloo Inc. Igloo also develops Abstract, an Ethereum layer-2 network aimed at consumer apps. These businesses give PENGU a recognizable brand and an active community, which sets it apart from many anonymous meme tokens. But buying the token does not give you any claim on Igloo's profits or assets, and the company is free to run its toy and media business without reference to the token's price.
