What is Bitget Token?

Bitget Token (BGB) started as the perks token of the Bitget exchange and, since 2025, also serves as the gas and governance token of Morph, a payments-focused Ethereum layer 2. It offers fee discounts and launch access on Bitget, and its supply has been cut sharply through burns. Bitget does not serve US residents.

Utility Lens

What Bitget Token actually does

BGB gives Bitget users fee discounts and launch access, and pays gas and votes in governance on the Morph network.

Real-world usage
earlyBGB has steady use for perks on Bitget, but its gas role on Morph is newer and much smaller.
Token necessity
optionalBitget works without BGB; it is required only for gas on Morph.
Decentralization
limitedBitget and the closely linked Morph Foundation control most of BGB's design, burns and reserves.
Track record
provenBGB launched in 2021 and has gone through a large burn and a 2025 move to Morph without a major token-specific hack we could find.

How we rate

What it’s used for

Bitget customers hold BGB to cut trading fees and join token-launch and mining promotions. Users of the Morph network pay gas in BGB, and holders can take part in Morph governance. Most trading and holding still happens on Bitget itself.

Evidence of real use

  • Bitget transferred 440 million BGB to the Morph Foundation in September 2025, burning 220 million immediately and locking the rest for gradual release. Source
  • Bitget's quarterly burn announcements state that burns continue until total BGB supply reaches 100 million. Source
  • Bitget's terms list the United States, including US territories, among prohibited countries. Source

How Bitget Token works

BGB launched in 2021 with 2 billion tokens. In late 2024 Bitget merged the token of its wallet business into BGB and burned 800 million BGB, then began quarterly burns. Inside the exchange, BGB works like a membership card: holding or paying with it lowers trading fees and opens access to token-launch events. Those perks are company policy and can change.

In September 2025 Bitget handed all the BGB it controlled, 440 million tokens, to the Morph Foundation. Half was burned at once and the other half was locked for monthly release to fund ecosystem growth. Morph, an Ethereum layer 2 focused on payments and consumer finance, now uses BGB for gas and governance, and its foundation tied future burns to network activity until supply falls to 100 million.

Key moments

  1. 2021Bitget Token (BGB) launches with a 2 billion supply.
  2. 2024Bitget merges its wallet token into BGB and burns 800 million BGB in December.
  3. 2025Quarterly burns continue; in September, Bitget transfers 440 million BGB to the Morph Foundation and 220 million are burned.
  4. 2025BGB becomes the gas and governance token of the Morph network.

Supply

BGB began with 2 billion tokens. Large one-time burns in December 2024 and September 2025, plus quarterly burns, have cut supply substantially, and the stated goal is to reduce it to 100 million. The 220 million BGB locked with the Morph Foundation are released gradually, which can add supply to the market.

Risks to understand

  • Not available to US residents: Bitget's terms prohibit US persons and US territories.
  • Company dependence: BGB's perks and burn program depend on Bitget's and the Morph Foundation's decisions.
  • Unlock pressure: tokens locked with the Morph Foundation are released monthly and could be sold.
  • Custodial risk: holding BGB on any exchange exposes you to that exchange's security and solvency.

Bitget Token FAQ

Can US residents use Bitget?

No. As of October 2026, Bitget's terms list the United States, including its territories, as a prohibited country.

What is Morph?

Morph is an Ethereum layer 2 network focused on payments and consumer finance. Since 2025 it uses BGB to pay gas and for governance votes.

Has Bitget faced US enforcement?

In our review we did not find a US federal settlement with Bitget. That is not a regulatory approval; Bitget simply does not serve US customers.
