Key takeaways
- On October 27, 2026, Ripple announced a strategic partnership with Robinhood. Ripple posted it on X, tagging Robinhood's app account, and a Robinhood crypto executive described the deal in a statement to CNBC.
- The deal centers on RLUSD, Ripple's US dollar stablecoin, not on XRP. Ripple says RLUSD is live now on Robinhood Chain and on Bitstamp by Robinhood, and is expected in the main Robinhood app later this year. No exact date was given.
- The rest is behind-the-scenes business: Robinhood plans to use RLUSD on the XRP Ledger for institutional settlement, adopt Ripple Treasury for its own cash management, and keep using Ripple Prime financing on Bitstamp.
- If RLUSD does reach the app, it will still be a stablecoin, not a bank deposit. The FDIC lists crypto assets as not covered by deposit insurance.
Ripple and Robinhood announced a partnership on October 27, 2026, and a viral post tagged it with the XRP ticker. It's really about RLUSD, Ripple's dollar stablecoin. For most Robinhood users, nothing changes in the app yet.
What happened
Ripple published a press release on Tuesday morning calling the deal a "strategic partnership" with Robinhood, and posted it on X, tagging Robinhood's app account. Robinhood confirmed its side through Johann Kerbrat, its senior vice president and general manager for crypto and international, who is quoted in the joint release. In a statement shared with CNBC, he said Bitstamp and Robinhood "will have access to RLUSD for institutional settlement, Ripple Treasury for our operations and Ripple Prime for financing." When we checked Tuesday afternoon, we didn't find a separate release in Robinhood's own newsroom.
Per Ripple's release, the deal has four parts:
- RLUSD on Robinhood's platforms. Ripple says RLUSD is live today on Robinhood Chain, Robinhood's Ethereum-compatible layer-2 network, and on Bitstamp by Robinhood, the crypto exchange Robinhood owns. It is "expected to be available later this year in the Robinhood app."
- Institutional settlement. Robinhood will use RLUSD on the XRP Ledger for institutional settlement, tied to Bitstamp's institutional business.
- Treasury software. Robinhood will adopt Ripple Treasury to run its own cash, liquidity, payments and forecasting.
- Financing. Ripple Prime, Ripple's prime brokerage, already provides Bitstamp with lending and margin financing on about 20 digital assets. Ripple says it will support perpetual futures trading on Bitstamp later in the year.
Is this about XRP? Mostly not
Watcher.Guru's post, seen roughly 500,000 times on X by Tuesday afternoon, read "Ripple $XRP and Robinhood $HOOD officially announce strategic partnership to expand stablecoin adoption." The ticker tag is the confusing part. The coin in this deal is RLUSD, a stablecoin designed to stay at $1, which Ripple launched in December 2024. Ripple's own X post tagged $RLUSD, not XRP.
XRP's only role here is indirect: the institutional settlement runs on the XRP Ledger, the blockchain that XRP is native to. That's plumbing for business clients. It doesn't change how XRP works, and it isn't a reason to buy or sell anything.
What changes for a regular Robinhood user
- Nothing in the app yet. Ripple's wording is that RLUSD is "expected" in the Robinhood app later this year. That's a plan, not a launch date, and plans can slip.
- The live pieces are elsewhere. Robinhood's help center says Robinhood Chain runs separately from your Robinhood brokerage and crypto accounts, and Bitstamp by Robinhood is its own exchange, not the Robinhood app. If you use either one, check its own pages for what's offered where you live.
- Most of the deal is for businesses. Treasury software, institutional settlement and prime brokerage financing don't show up in a personal account.
What RLUSD is, in brief
RLUSD is a US dollar stablecoin from Ripple, issued through its New York-regulated trust company, and Ripple says it can be redeemed at par (one RLUSD for one dollar). Ripple puts its market value at about $2.5 billion. CNBC pointed out that the stablecoin market is still led by Tether's USDT and Circle's USDC. Ripple says BNY is the primary custodian of RLUSD's reserves, and on the same day it announced that BNY now supports XRP and RLUSD on its institutional custody platform. Our RLUSD page covers the reserves, attestations and risks.
This deal also follows Ripple's announcement a day earlier that the OCC gave final approval to Ripple National Trust Bank, the trust bank whose approved activities, Ripple says, include managing the reserves behind RLUSD. We explained what that charter does and doesn't mean in our post on Ripple's trust bank approval. In short: federal supervision, not FDIC insurance.
The takeaway
Ripple and Robinhood are linking up on RLUSD, treasury software and trading finance. For everyday Robinhood users the main thing to watch is whether RLUSD actually appears in the app "later this year," and if it does, to remember it's a stablecoin, not insured cash. Be wary of anyone using the headlines to pitch "Ripple x Robinhood" giveaways or XRP bonus offers; neither company has announced any. This is education, not financial advice, and it reflects the companies' announcements as of October 27, 2026.
Frequently asked questions
Can I buy RLUSD in the Robinhood app today?
According to Ripple's announcement, not yet. Ripple says RLUSD is already usable on Bitstamp by Robinhood and on Robinhood Chain, while the main app should get it later this year. "Expected later this year" is a plan, not a launch date.
Is this an XRP deal?
Not mainly. Some viral posts tagged the news with $XRP, but the announcement is about RLUSD, Ripple's dollar stablecoin, plus Ripple's treasury and financing services. The only XRP link is that Robinhood plans to use RLUSD on the XRP Ledger for institutional settlement. This is not a reason to buy or sell anything.
Would RLUSD in my Robinhood account be FDIC insured?
No. FDIC insurance covers deposits at FDIC-insured banks, and the FDIC lists crypto assets as not covered. A stablecoin held in a brokerage app is still a crypto asset, even if the app also offers banking products.
Who issues RLUSD?
RLUSD comes from Ripple through Standard Custody & Trust Company, its New York-regulated trust company, and launched in December 2024. Ripple says BNY is the main custodian of its reserves. See our RLUSD page and our post on Ripple's national trust bank approval for how it is regulated.
